A Yummy Way to Help Children
Tomorrow is Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day, during which participating DQ locations will donate all proceeds from Blizzards to local children’s hospitals.
In 1984 Dairy Queen teamed up with Children’s Miracle Network, and since then DQ has raised nearly $60 million for children’s hospitals affiliated with the Children’s Miracle Network. They estimate that tomorrow alone they could potentially raise $2 million from the sale of Blizzards. So get to your local Dairy Queen, have a Blizzard [Mmm… Oreo…], and help children in need.

said a fan on 14 September 2006 at 17:19Support was overwhelming on Miracle Treat Day, and Dairy Queen raised over $3.5 million dollars for the Children’s Miracle Network! I’m glad I convinced some co-workers to run out for a bit on that day to get some Blizzards and do our part to help.
Here are a few sweet stories about children personally touched by the Children’s Miracle Network [from blizzardfanclub.com]:
“Miracle Treat Day was especially significant at the Spicer, Minn., DQ where one of the restaurant teenage employees, Andrea Shimek, was treated at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare for congenital hip dysplasia. Two other local children treated at the hospital were also recognized as part of the location’s Miracle Treat Day activities. Dayton Lien received treatment for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and Jacob Kieft was in the hospital on Miracle Treat Day recovering from a traumatic brain injury. Dayton and Jacob welcomed customers to Dairy Queen restaurant and shared their personal experiences about being treated at their Children’s Miracle Network hospital.
Celebration was also in abundance at a DQ in Troy, Ala., where Delaney Davenport, 9, showed up to announce she had just been told she was cancer-free after seven months of cancer treatment. Delaney visited her local DQ location to celebrate and support the cause that had made such a difference in her life. “I went out there to get a Blizzard Treat because I wanted to help other children that are sick,” Delaney said. “They were raising money for the Children’s Hospital and I wanted to help.” Delaney was diagnosed with cancer in January and underwent extensive cancer treatments at Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham, Ala., until she was pronounced cancer-free on August 10.”
