A Mile of Curry

One night while in Manchester, England for the Gorillaz concerts, I went to Curry Mile to find a place for dinner. I frankly couldn’t resist going to an area boasting of over 50 restaurants and takeaways of the Pakistani, Indian, Iranian and Bangladeshi persuasion. I ended up at Darbar, mostly because there was a guy handing out menus outside. But once inside, Darbar didn’t disappoint [well, except for the grumpy waiter]. I ordered mutter paneer, naan, and a mango lassi. The mutter paneer and naan were reasonably priced, but the lassi was really expensive [£4.50!]. All the food was really good though: the naan was hot and fresh, the mutter paneer was perfectly spiced, and the mango lassi was just the right consistency. [I’ve had lassis in the past that weren’t thick enough.] So if you’re ever in Manchester and you have a hankering for curry, I recommend Darbar.

  1. If you get a chance, in London - take a tube trip to the Marble Arch stop, my recommendation is a wildly unique resteraunt called Port of India. BTW - Love the web site !
